A brief Biography

Born in Kobe/Japan, 1961. He got his Master’s degree in Sociology from Graduate School of Humanities, Kobe University. By utilizing and criticizing computer technology, especially programing original softwares with Max/MSP/Jitter, he has been creating music and media art works from a unique theoretical / historical viewpoint of “Archeology of Machine” since 1990’s.
Recently he has focused on the realtime synthesis of highly realistic singing voices and has been implementing it in his compositions, live performances and sound installations, such as a series of live performances Mechanovocal Show, KIKAI Mission for trumpet, radio and mechanovocal commissioned by Kiyonori Sokabe, TOWANOKOE for piano, soprano and mechanovocal commissioned by Aki Takahashi.

He is also known as a member of “neumannpiano” with Masayuki Akamatsu that has introduced Max/MSP/Jitter to Japan leading Japanese media art scenes by publishing 4 great books on its programing techniques.

And he is also a member of Formant Brothers with Masahiro Miwa, not only creating many live performance pieces by human performing of artificial voices but also presenting theoretical discussions on voice, subject and media technology. The video documentation of their works are available on YouTube; Ordering a Pizza de Brothers, NEO Do-Do-I-Tsu, Le Tombeau de Freddie / L’Internationale (Prix Ars Electronica 2009 Honorary mention), Yume no Waltz, etc.

Other works: sound installation exhibition water machine. Solo CD Clockwork Hermes, compilation CD Room207 etc.
